Copying Metadata

You can copy metadata from one game to one or more others. The corresponding button in the context menu of a game takes you to the copy dialog. Here you can select the desired fields and decide whether they should replace the existing value (if not, the values for list fields are added to the existing ones, for other fields they are not copied at all) and whether they should only be inserted if the target field is empty. After clicking OK, you can select other games and paste the values via the game context menu.

Removing unwanted metadata

You can use Metadata Utilities to automatically remove unwanted metadata items after they are added to a game through a metadata update. Simply add them to the list under the “Remove unwanted” tab in the addon settings and tick the checkbox “Remove unwanted items on metadata update” to the right of the list.

You can also manually remove those items by selecting one or more games and clicking the “Remove unwanted metadata” option in the context menu under Metadata Editor.

Removing unused metadata

Playnite already allows you to manually remove unused metadata in the Library Manager for each type separately, but Metadata Utilities goes a bit further.

You can automatically remove unused metadata when starting Playnite by ticking the combobox “Remove unused metadata on start up” for each desired field under the “Field types” tab in the addon settings. If you also tick the box “Ignore hidden games when removing unused metadata”, the addon will also remove items, that are only used by hidden games. There’s also a whitelist for items, you want to keep, even if they are not used.

You can also trigger this function manually by clicking the “Remove unused metadata” option in the extensions menu or the button of the same name in the Metadata Editor.

Whitelist

You can use the whitelist in the addon settings to specify values that should not be deleted if they are no longer used. You can also specify whether they should be hidden in the detailed view in the theme (only for themes that have integrated Metadata Utilities controls) or in the metadata editor. The “Add defaults” button can be used to automatically add some common values used by other add-ons to the list.

Adding default categories/tags

In older versions of the add-on, there was a dedicated function to add standard categories and tags. This has since been removed and can instead be implemented with far more options as a conditional action. For this purpose, there is the condition “Game is new”.
