Screenshot Utilities

Description

One thing I always missed in Playnite is the ability to display screenshots of games in the UI to quickly see how the game looks like. There are addons like Screenshot Visualizer and Steam Store Screenshots Viewer, but those only serve one purpose and have separate UI integrations. That’s why I wrote Screenshot Utilities to unify screenshots from different sources into one control.

Screenshot Utilities provides a standalone window and theme embeddable control to view screenshots. It also can download screenshots and will be able to manage them to a greater extent in future versions. It does not provide the screenshots itself however, but enables separate provider addons to supply Playnite with screenshots from basically any source imaginable.

To use Screenshot Utilities you need to install at least one of the available provider addons (see below) as well. Once installed, they will automatically fetch the screenshots from their sources and display them in the standalone viewer or directly in the theme if it supports it. Currently my own theme KNARZnite does that.

Provider Addons

The following provider addons are currently available. More will follow in time.

Screenshot Utilities Steam Provider

Provides screenshots from the Steam Store page of a game. It works for games from the Steam library addon out of the box. Other games need a link to steam to get the game id.

Screenshot Utilities GOG Provider

Provides screenshots from the GOG Store page of a game. It only works for games from the GOG or GOG OSS library addons for the moment.

Screenshot Utilities Arcade Database Provider

Provides screenshots from the Arcade Database on Arcade Italia. It will automatically fetch screenshots for all MAME emulated games that are listed as installed and have a rom file associated with the game. You also can add screenshots from Arcade Database manually using the search function. In that case no rom files are needed.

Planned features

• Add features to better manage your screenshots, add descriptions etc.
• Option to add screenshots manually.
• Screenshot slideshow (maybe even as a screensaver type thing)
• Maybe even add videos to play from online links.
• Integrate provider functionality into the Launchbox Metadata addon to fetch the different imagery from Launchbox.
• Add provider addon for local screenshots from Steam etc. similar to Screenshot Visualizer.
